LCSW · Teacher · Builder · New Orleans
I started out in a clinic detox center. Then community based services, adolescent therapy, and a dropout prevention program. Then I became a teacher, and I have been one for more than ten years now, all of it in New Orleans public schools.
Those are two halves of the same job. Both come down to sitting with somebody in the middle of something hard and finding the next workable step. The classroom just has thirty people in it at once.
Out of shortage, mostly. A computer lab with good machines, no network and no licences, so I built the network myself and served the lessons off my own desktop. Students had my address memorised. When the tools I needed for teaching data science did not exist in a form a public school could actually use, I built those too, and my own students use them daily.
None of it was meant to be a product. I build tools so I can be better at the work I am already doing, and I hand them to whoever else needs them.
Teaching in a New Orleans public school, with the course I teach living at muggsofcompsci.net.
Websites for organizations and people who would rather spend their money on the work than on a monthly plan. Free while I build the body of work.
Data manager for Irish Network New Orleans, where I built and still run the site, the events system and the members area.
Clinical social worker, Louisiana licence 11349, with a master’s in social work from LSU.
Write about a website, a project, or anything else. My resume comes by request, and I send references with it.
